Our son is 12 years old and has struggled with reading since the age of eight. We wanted to do everything possible to help him with his struggles. He was tutored through his school and another reading program before discovering Webster's Reading and Learning. The tutoring and reading class he received before this promised to improve his reading, but the outcomes were not at all what we had hoped. Instead he became less confident and more frustrated. This not only affected his grades, but also his personal relationships with his peers who he had viewed as "smarter" than him.

Thanks to the recommendation of a trusted source, we discovered the Webster's Reading Program that uses "Sound Graffs". The program goes back to the basics of reading and dissects the written word in a way that is comprehendible to our son. Unlike any other method we had tried before, Webster's Reading and Learning has built the foundation that he needs to succeed in school and beyond. Mary is truly a gifted teacher and has the experience to draw out the best in each of her students.

Our son is in the 7th grade in a challenging academic private school and has successfully completed his first term with A's and B's. We couldn't be prouder of him and his hard work. But, more important than his academic success has been the amazing transformation in his confidence level. He no longer feels like the "dumb" kid in the class. He feels like he belongs, and according to his teachers he is a willing participant in class instead of sitting quietly hoping to not be called upon. We are truly grateful to Mary and her program and would recommend it to anyone with a child struggling in school. Amy, St. Charles

I have an 11-year-old son who had trouble reading. I tried tutors, vision therapy, local reading programs, even school resources and nothing worked. When I met Ed and Mary, I discovered that kids learn in different ways. After enrolling my son in the Webster’s Reading Program, he became both a better reader and writer. His self-confidence improved tremendously. I appreciate Ed and Mary's flexibility in scheduling and their dedication to teaching. They have taught my son to be accountable for his thoughts and actions. I am impatient and have a hard time working with my son, but Ed and Mary are patient with him and he has responded to their teaching methods. I would recommend Webster's Reading and Learning programs to anyone with a child having trouble reading or that needs help with math, science, or writing. I say to Parents having a hard time working with their child, Ed and Mary offer guidance through specific programs and techniques that work. They are dedicated, focused and caring teachers. Thank you, Ed and Mary. You helped us so much when nobody else was able to.
Michelle, St Charles

Webster's Reading and Learning has been wonderful for Olivia. She has struggled and struggled with the phonics reading program at her school and even after several months of vision therapy and other programs she was still not able to read fluently. At the end of second grade her final report card grade was a D and after working with Mary her first quarter report card was a B !!! She has increased confidence in herself and has much more interest in school.
Thank you
Debi,

We have twins that were having difficulty with reading.  Their Sound Graffs program has taught them how to decode words with great confidence and have become successful readers.  Their fluency of reading has greatly improved. We have seen a definite lift to both of their self-esteems.  Mary is currently working with their reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, and writing.  Both children are also learning math skills from Ed.  Our son has a great interest in math and Ed is challenging him with new math skills.  Our daughter was struggling with basic math skills.  Now she is no longer struggling to keep up with her peers.  Ed has made tremendous strides and she now has an interest in math with a sense of confidence.  Mary and Ed have listened to my concerns and have addressed them. They are excellent teachers and they are patient with our children. We appreciate their flexibility with tutoring days and my chaotic work schedule.   We would highly recommend the Webster's Reading and Learning Programs.

Webster's Reading with Sound Graffs is an amazing program. My child had difficulty reading in 1st grade.  Enrolling him in the program helped boost his confidence in reading, and helped him become more motivated to read.  I am grateful for the program and recommend it to all!  Ola, Chesterfield, MO

Since my daughter has been going to Webster's Reading and Learning, it has made a big difference in her writing.  Immediately after the first session I saw a big change.  Before I enrolled her in the writing program, her sentences were short and choppy and had no detail.  I wanted her to strengthen her vocabulary, writing and reading skills because she was entering middle school.  After completing the 12 hour program I have no doubt that she is ready for 7th grade, because her verbal, written and overall communication skills have increased tremendously.  My daughter also notices the difference, she is a lot more confident in her own abilities. Thanks Mary for all of your help and hard work.  Sonia Dulaney, St Louis, MO

I am pleased with how fast my daughter improved. While attending your sessions her grades in sixth grade went from D's and F's to A's and B's. Now she likes to read and she has more confidence in herself. Your 12 week reading program really works.  Mrs. Deason, Fuquay-Varina

My son was having a lot of problems with reading. He was frustrated and angry so we put him in tutoring for a few years, but he still had trouble with reading. Then we found out about Webster's Reading and Learning. After a few months my son was diagnosed with dyslexia. With their special reading program he improved immensely. His grades at school have gone from 0's and 50's to 90's and 100's. What an improvement, in less than 12 weeks. His confidence has soared. This year in school he started to have trouble so I turned to Webster's Reading and Learning again for their help. I would recommend Webster's Reading and Learning to anyone with a child who is struggling with school work. You will be happy with the improvements and your child will gain confidence. I know my son did.

My niece has developmental delays and has been in a specialized curriculum class in the public school system. After starting her second year of kindergarten, her parents and I were disappointed that she was making little progress in the classroom, particularly in the areas of reading and writing. We wanted to see if she would benefit from additional support in these areas and engaged Webster's Reading and Learning for tutoring sessions 1-2 times per week.
Her sessions initially focused on recognition of sound graffs, building towards reading short words, and ultimately sentences and stories.
As she has progressed, comprehension, writing and other grade level goals have been introduced. Her tutoring sessions have always been tailored to her abilities and needs. We are pleased with and encouraged by the progress that my niece has made. We feel that the additional tutoring she has received from Webster's Reading and Learning has significantly contributed towards her reading accomplishments. We are even hopeful that with continued assistance from Mary's program, my niece will be able to move from the specialized class to a regular class in the near future.  Cindy Garrison, Raleigh, NC

This program works, her confidence went way up. My 18 year old daughter who has dyslexia improved very quickly. In less than 12 weeks her grades in high school increased by one whole letter grade and she will graduate high school.

My home schooled 16 year old son gained a year in reading level at testing. He now has the confidence to read difficult words.  J. Pope, Raleigh, NC

My son is in 6th grade, is an excellent student with very good grades. We decided to continue tutoring with Webster's Reading and Learning because we want to be sure that our son will maintain his excellent academic performance in school. He is more self confident, enjoys reading and is self assured about how he handles his school assignments when he is in tutoring. This gives him the opportunity to improve his writing as he goes up in grade level. Now we are beginning preparation for SAT writing.

After having success with my older son, this year I started my younger son age 6 in the beginner reading program. He is reading at grade level and has a lot of confidence. He learned how to decode words by segmenting and blending sounds. He enjoys reading and even tries difficult words. He is able to read short stories and answer questions when prompted. We are pleased with his progress. Now he is starting to write sentences and is spelling words correctly. Another thing I would like to add is we do like the flexible scheduling. Whenever there's a need, Mary and Ed always try to accommodate us. We really appreciate that.

One-on-one tutoring sessions helped me prepare for the LSAT exam. After six sessions, I had a good handle on the various types of potential questions for the test. These sessions boosted my confidence level and improved my score. I would recommend Webster's Reading and Learning to other college students preparing for undergraduate and graduate school entrance exams. The one-on-one sessions are very effective.  Stephanie, Raleigh, NC

My son attended a private school in Raleigh. In first grade they told me he had difficulty learning to read and gave me some names of tutors that they trusted. I hired one of their tutors, but she didn't work out very well, after 2 months I didn't notice any improvement. The school insisted that my son be tested for ADD. After spending money on testing, I found out that he did not have ADD. The psychologist told me he had a great memory, was very smart and his attention was fine. With this diagnosis I decided to seek help without school interference. I found Webster's Reading in Carolina Parent Magazine. When I spoke to Mary Tokas she offered to test and evaluate him free of charge.

After the evaluation she confidently told me that she could help my son, and she did. She brought him up to grade in no time, my husband and I were amazed how fast things happened.  In less than 12 weeks he reached grade level.  He also had math sessions with Ed Tokas and he loved it.  He even got a math award at his new school.  After reading so well everything else fell into place. My son's self esteem improved, he feels better about school.  We have no words to express how we feel about Webster's Reading and Learning.  Now that I’ve returned to college after being out for a long period of time, I go to them for help every time I need tutoring, even for computer lessons.  Elie Sousa, Raleigh, NC

Our son was struggling in school. His grades were below grade level and he showed little interest in his work. Self confidence and self esteem were low. Homework time in the evenings were miserable for everyone. We had asked on several occasions for recommendations and assistance at school, but responses were non committed and sometimes evasive.

We decided to seek outside help on our own. We were fortunate to find Webster's Reading and Learning through commendations of a friend. From the beginning, the interest and concern shown our son has been phenomenal. Ms. Mary works with him on his reading and writing, and Mr. Ed on his math. Their skill is remarkable. Areas of difficulty and levels of performance were quickly assessed and plans personalized to our needs, were implemented to help him.

I have never seen our son respond to his teachers the way he does for Ms. Mary and Mr. Ed. They have unending patience. They seem to easily keep him engaged. He has made such progress in only twelve weeks. Even the teachers at school have expressed recognition.

We would recommend Webster's Reading and Learning to anyone who may be experiencing similar difficulties. The improvements we have seen in self-confidence and esteem are priceless. This intervention has made such a difference for all of us. We so wish we had sought help sooner.  Sincerely, Cindy & Dan Thomas, Cary, NC

Mary and Ed, thank you so much for working with Alex over the past few months. His reading skills have improved significantly. Making the honor roll was a huge achievement; he could not have made it without tour help. I am continuing to work with him to complete the workbook. I'll call you in January to enroll his younger brother in the same program.  Marisa, Cary, NC

Mary and Ed Thank you both so much for helping Bo get thru his senior year. I wish I had found you sooner! Because of you, Bo was able to improve his GPA and his SAT score which is the reason he was accepted at Mount Olive College. Thanks again for everything!  Kay, Cary NC

Thank you for helping me learn how to read!! Love, Brianna

Words can't express how grateful we are for everything you have done for Brianna. She could not read at all just 12 weeks ago and now she is at grade level. Stephanie and Jerry, Cary, NC

My first grade son's reading level at mid-year was considerably below grade level. He was not responding to the eclectic approach used to teach reading at his school. After eight weeks using this program he reached grade level! Retention at school was no longer an issue, and he learned skills that will allow him to continue to succeed. I am pleased with the results. In only 8 hours of reading therapy he reached grade level.!  Jennifer Mc Clellan, Holly Springs, NC

Thank you for all your hard work with Megan and Will. You have been a good teacher to them and to me. We are going to continue to work with the materials you have provided and we will check in with you in the future.  Wendy R, Cary, NC
